Reminders: Monday is a school holiday so we will see you on Tuesday!
Tuesday, September 10th is picture day!

Morning Drop Off: Thank you for helping your child during this time. As a reminder, our school opens at 7:30, with supervision only on the lower playground. At 7:40, the supervisors will walk the children up to the upper playground to play until school starts at 7:55.
Daily Folders: Each day your child will bring home his/her Room 6 folder with the amazing work done that day. Please find a special time to sit with your child, go through the work asking him/her questions and enjoying hearing about all the learning and fun that is taking place during his/her day..
Here is a peek at next week.
Language Arts- We will enjoy 3 stories from our HM Reading Series, Charles the Tiger, The Big Hit and Big Pig.  Our strategy focus will be to evaluate a story. Our comprehension focus is looking at cause and effect in a story. You can work with these skills in the stories that you all enjoy together at home this coming week.
Word Wall Words: Each Monday, we will put 5 new word wall words on our Word Wall. Here is the list of word wall words that are on our Word Wall now: a, and, are, as, at, because, be big, can, did, for, friend, from, go, have, he, here, his, had, I, in, is, it, like, my, me, no, not, of, on, play, said, see, she, that, the, they, this, to, up, was, want, with, you.  Helping your child learn these words will be a huge support to their reading. Once they know these words by sight, they can work on spelling them on their own as they are the most frequently used words in first grade. Flash cards are a great way to practice. Some children even have their own word walls in their rooms. It is great to have a Word Wall at home too and add the five new word wall words to it each week. This week's word wall words are going to be find, one, who, him, her.
Handwriting: We will continue to learn how to write the alphabet the "first grade way". Our “Magic C” letters all start with a c (starting at the top and going around and if needed, back down again without lifting the pencil).  The straight-line letters, except for “e”, all start at the top and go down, and back up (if needed) without lifting the pencil. Practicing daily at home will really help your child. Thanks in advance.
Math: We will be finished up learning how to write the numbers 1-9 the "purple/green" way and we will focus on place value with numbers to 30 using our Houghton Mifflin Math Book.
PE  Monday and Tuesdays so please make sure your child wears appropriate footwear  and clothing on those days.
Library: We will be going to our Rio del Mar School Library each Friday morning to hear a story and check out a library book. Your child can keep the book at home and bring it back the following Friday or before. We will have a Library Basket here in the classroom to store the books until the following Friday when we go to the Library again. If you would like to volunteer during our library time, Fridays 8:00-8:30,  helping the students select books, we would love 2 or 3 helpers. Thanks in advance.

Have a great long weekend,
Mrs. Robinson
