Here is the updated list of word wall words that are on our Word Wall now: a, and, are, about, as, at, an, all, because, be big, by, can, did, down, do, for, first,  friend, from, find, go, have, he, here, his, had, him, her, has, how, I, in, is, it, if, know, like, little, my, me, made, many, most, make, more no, not, nice, of, on, one, once, play, said, see, she, that, the, they, this, to, up, when, where, why, was, want, with, who, what, you.  Helping your child learn these words will be a huge support to their reading. Please continue to work on addition facts nightly as we will be doing the same here each day.
Science: Your child is bringing home his/her Science Journal this week to share with you all he/she learned about out insect study. Enjoy reading through it together, write a comment in the book if you wish, and help your child remember to bring it back to school. We will continue to add to the Science Journal throughout the year.
We are continuing our nutritional study learning about the food groups.  Each week we will take a look at a different food group. Ask your child what groups we have learned about and how they are incorporating them into their diet. Thank you for completing and sending in your home nutrition survey. We had fun reviewing it.

Friday, August 16, 2013

Welcome!
I am so excited to start my 14th year here at Rio del Mar teaching first grade in Room 6. It is going to be another fabulous year and I can't wait to meet everyone on Monday.
Welcome to my Room 6 blog too!  My hope is that by reading this blog each week, you will get a peak into the upcoming fun and learning that will be happening. We love sharing what's going on and this is our way to do so since you all can't be here with us!
We will start off the school year with the Humpty Dumpty poem which will help us learn how to be safe, follow rules and make good choices while here at school. We will also enjoy The Cat Sat, our first story in our Houghton Mifflin reading series. This story will help us with the concept of beginning, middle and end in a story. In math, we will work with patterns, counting to 100 and writing numbers the first grade way. Ask your child about how to write our first grade "purple green" first grade number and learn for yourself.
Please look for the very important information packet from the office your child is bringing home. There are many forms to be filled out and returned.
Also please read our First Grade Information Sheet which will answer many of your questions about first grade procedures.
Looking forward to a great school year,
Mrs. Robinson
