Field Trip: Please look for the upcoming field trip permission slip, fill it out and return ASAP especially if you are planning on driving. Remember that those who have their current paperwork in the office are the only ones allowed to drive on field trips.

Star of the Week: Please take a minute to look at the schedule for our Star of the Week Program. You can see when your child is going to be Star of the Week and plan accordingly. The program is described here on the blog and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me or stop by.

Classroom Needs: Please take a look at our Wish List as there are still things on it that we really would love to have. Thanks in advance

Conferences: I look forward to meeting with all of you the week of Oct. 7th for conferences to discuss your child and the progress he/she has made. If you signed up for a conference and would prefer a 7:30 am conference, or a conference at 10:40-11:00 am please let me know. Also, I'm also willing to have telephone conferences too. If you do not have a conference time yet or forgot when yours is, please contact me.

Language Arts- We had a practice run through with our RTI program this week and all the kids are excited to have it official kick off this Monday, September 30! Your child knows which class/teacher he/she reports to each Monday through Thursday and is looking forward to it.

Word Wall Words: Each Monday, we will put 5 new word wall words on our Word Wall. Here is the updated list of word wall words that are on our Word Wall now: a, and, are, as, at, an, all, because, be big, by, can, did, do, for, friend, from, find, go, have, he, here, his, had, him, her, has, how, I, in, is, it, if, like, little, my, me, made, most, make, more no, not, nice, of, on, one, once, play, said, see, she, that, the, they, this, to, up, when, where, why, was, want, with, who, what, you.  Helping your child learn these words will be a huge support to their reading. Once they know these words by sight, they can work on spelling them on their own as they are the most frequently used words in first grade. Flash cards are a great way to practice. Some children even have their own word walls in their rooms. It is great to have a Word Wall at home too and add the five new word wall words to it each week. This week's word wall words are going to be.... made, make, most, more, nice

Math: We will be working in Chapter 5 which focuses on addition fact strategies. We will be discussing all the different strategies to use when adding two groups of objects together. We will give the children time to verbalize what strategy they a prefer using and how they use it.  Completing  Chapter 5 workbook pages in the Homework Book I gave you at Back to School Night and working with your flashcards daily will help.

Science: We finished  up our unit on insects this week and put all of the work into our Science Journal. Look for it to come home with your child soon. Enjoy reading it and discussing all he/she learned. We will need them to come back to school soon so as soon as you are finished enjoying it, return it to Room 6.
